LIMMAT VALLEY LINE
The Limmat Valley is one of the fastest-growing regions in the Zurich area. In the coming years,
sharp increases are anticipated in the number of people living and working here. More housing and
more jobs also means more traffic. The planned Limmattalbahn (Limmat Valley Line) will accommodate
a large share of the future added traffic volume and provide optimal public transport access for
the Limmat Valley.
Beginning in 2020, the Limmattalbahn line will operate between the stations of
Zürich-Altstetten and Killwangen-Spreitenbach in Canton Aargau. Along the 13.3 km route, 26 stops
are planned including the communities of Schlieren, Urdorf, Dietikon and Spreitenbach. Construction
of the light rail system is scheduled to begin in 2017.
The Limmattalbahn line is being realised as a cooperative project of the cantons of Zurich
and Aargau. In 2010, they jointly established the Limmattalbahn AG to coordinate the planning and
execution of the infrastructure.
