4th expansion Zurich S-Bahn

With the 4th phase of expansion of the Zurich S-Bahn rail network, the Zurich S-Bahn system is currently undergoing the largest expansion of service since the start of operations. All the fundamental details on the project can be found here Opens link in new window.

Groundbreaking of the 4th phase of expansion
With the groundbreaking ceremony in May 2012, the implementation of the 4th phase of expansion was officially launched.

Modern rolling stock for the 4th phase of expansion
Along with new trains (regional double-deck trains), the existing S-Bahn trains will be needed to meet the expanded service offerings instituted in the 4th phase of expansion. All double deckers of the first generation will thus be modernised and equipped with air conditioning among other refurbishments. Schloss Laufen
Due to high costs and low levels of use, the cantonal government resolved to close the Schloss Laufen station near the Rhine Falls by the end of 2015 (board decision Opens link in new window) . The Rhine Falls tourist destination will continue to be served by bus and S-Bahn.

In connection with an urgent postulate Opens link in new window of the Cantonal Council, individual aspects of this decision will be subjected to further in-depth review.

Zurich–Chur service
