ZVV IN SHORT
The ZVV is the only integrated public transport system in Switzerland. It provides and ensures a holistic approach towards strategic transport planning and coordination, marketing and financing of public transport in the larger Zurich area. 51 Carriers are active under the umbrella of the ZVV. Its eight biggest companies each carry the market responsibility for a certain region. These companies are: Zürcher S-Bahn, Postauto Zürich, SZU VBG ZSG, VBZ, VZO and Stadtbus Winterthur. ZVV itself is not operational, transportation is only provided by the carriers. Combined they transport more than 500 million passengers each year. Approximately 60 per cent of the annual costs of the ZVV are covered by ticket revenue and miscellaneous sales. The rest is equally divided and paid for by the canton of Zurich and its 171 communes.
