Extension of Services in 2012

IMPROVEMENTS IN LOW-FLOOR SERVICES FROM DECEMBER 2011 (2012 TIMETABLE YEAR)

Each year, ZVV provides information on the improvements to low-floor services throughout the integrated public transport network in a Öffnet PDF in einem neuen Fensterbrochure (PDF, 876KB), effective December 2010. The following gives a roundup of the progress made:

Zurich S-Bahn (SBB, THURBO, SZU, Forchbahn, SOB, BDWM)

  • SBB’s low-floor services will be expanded over the course of the 2012 timetable year. On the S12 route, the first regional double-deck trains of the 3rd generation (RegioExpress double-deck trains) will be put into service.
  • On the S16 route (Meilen – Zurich Main Station – Zurich Airport – Thayngen), individual double-deck multiple-unit trains will continue to offer periodic low-floor service (for information on vehicle deployment: SBB Call Center Handicap at 0800 007 102).
  • On the S4 route (Zurich HB–Adliswil–Langnau–Gattikon–Sihlwald), intermediate low-floor coaches have been integrated into the existing double-deck multiple-unit trains.
  • On the S17 route (Wohlen–Bremgarten–Dietikon), low-floor vehicles are used for all connections.
  • The stations Biberbrugg, Schindellegi-Feusisberg and Wilen bei Wollerau were made handicapped-accessible in 2011.

Tram routes for the City of Zurich / Glattalbahn

  • Using the special network plan for the City of Zurich (Low-floor services for the City of Zurich, tram and bus routes), you can obtain information about the available services and location of tram stops with raised access kerbs. • On the no. 4 route (now connecting to the Altstetten Nord station), every second tram will offer low-floor service. All new stops in the newly constructed section of the Zurich West tram route are handicapped-accessible.
  • On the new no. 17 route (Werdhölzli–Löwenplatz) as well, every second tram will offer low-floor service.
  • The number of tram stops with a 30cm-high access kerb is constantly growing thanks to ongoing renovations to the roadways and additional funding from the cantonal credit line. By the end of 2011, approximately 90 tram stops in the City of Zurich and the Glattal will have raised access kerbs allowing passengers to board trams (Cobra/smooth-runner vehicles) at the same level (compared to 2008: 38 tram stops). The list is contained on page 23 of the brochure.

Bus routes within the transport network (see the list on page 26 of the brochure)

  • The changeover to low-floor vehicles is largely complete on routes using diesel buses. Limitations still exist on 21 routes (some or no low-floor vehicles). On eight routes, wheelchair access is limited to passengers in manual wheelchairs (542, 543, 545, 546, 622, 809, 883 and 887).

  • The trolleybus route 31 in Zurich is operating fully with low-floor vehicles. Effective May 2010, low-floor vehicles will be exclusively running on trolleybus route 1, 2, and 3 in Winterthur as well (exception: two reserve vehicles during renovations of Bahnhofplatz).
