S-BAHN TRAINS

Following the successful delivery of the double-deck multiple-unit trains of the 2nd generation (DTZ), the 2012 timetable year will see introduction of the first double-deck trains of the 3rd generation (RegioExpress double-deck trains). On these trains, sliding steps facilitate boarding at all entry doors.

The Opens PDF in new windownetwork plan (PDF, 692KB) with the low-floor services for the Zurich S-Bahn / station access information provides details about the access conditions in the individual stations.

In the 2012 timetable year, all S4 connections will operate with a low-floor double-deck coach (NDW). On SBB’s double-deck push-pull trains of the 1st generation (DPZ), low-floor double-deck coaches (NDW) will also go into service. During the 2012 timetable year, the first coaches will be in operation.

The train stations and stops in the S-Bahn network offer varying degrees of usability for wheelchair passengers (different platform heights, ramps or stairs). Under “Guidance on using stops” ZVV and its affiliated transport companies inform you about the accessibility of stations and platforms as well as the boarding conditions for all low-floor S-Bahn trains.

Stations at which assistance can be booked in advance

More and more low-floor trains are being used by the operators (SBB and THURBO) in Zurich’s S-Bahn network. At thirty others stations within the ZVV territory, organisational arrangements have been made for staff to be available to assist passengers in wheelchairs. These stations are equipped with “Mobilifts”, thanks to which passengers in wheelchairs can use the high-floor trains operating the following S-Bahn routes: S2, S3, S5, S6, S7, S8, S9, S12, S14, S16 (Saturdays and Sundays); they can also be used for boarding and alighting from long-distance trains. The support stations are indicated on the Opens PDF in new windowS-Bahn low-floor network plan (PDF, 692KB).

The staff members responsible for operating the “Mobilifts” are available every day from 06:00 to 23:00 (Exceptions by prior arrangement). You must make your reservation in good time beforehand by contacting the “SBB Call Center Handicap” (tel. 0800 007 102). You will find further information, including more details about the stations offering disabled assistance at  www.sbb.ch/handicap Opens link in new window.
