NIGHTTIME NETWORK VISION

A look into the future

Since December 2002, Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV) has also been active at night. Within around eight years, demand for nighttime network services had risen by more than 200%, and this demand looks set to continue growing. For this reason there are plans to extend the service even further. The ZVV has drawn up a nighttime network vision laying the foundation for future planning of the service.
The nighttime network vision lays down concrete steps for expanding the nighttime network in future, plus a broad direction and basic principles for planning services in the medium term: new nighttime S-Bahn routes will replace existing regional bus routes in areas with high potential, and services will run on an hourly basis as standard.
What will not change is the fact that the nighttime network will only run at weekends, and it will still have to cover costs. And in future passengers will still have to pay a night supplement over and above the regular fare.
