City of Zurich
The 4th partial expansion will bring the following benefits for the City of Zurich:
- Consolidation of the S-Bahn connections beyond the city boundaries
- Alongside the connections Altstetten – Stadelhofen and Oerlikon – Stadelhofen also the connections Altstetten – Oerlikon and with the cross-city link faster connections Enge – Oerlikon for the inner city S-Bahn traffic without the need to change
- Reducing the S-Bahn services in Zurich Wipkingen due to insufficient capacity at the main station and in Oerlikon
The new Löwenstrasse through station is used by four S-Bahn lines (S2, S8, S14, S19) in the 4. partial expansion alongside the long-distance traffic.
The service offered by the 4. partial expansion of the Zurich S-Bahn presents 55 S-Bahn trains per hour and direction, measured from the city boundary. That is 11 trains or 25% more than in 2008. New lines during traffic peak hours will be added to this (6 trains per hour). Possible other additional trains remain optional.
With the 4. partial expansion of the Zurich S-Bahn the offer of full-day cross-city connections has increased from 40 to 52 per hour. As a result of the cross-city line many connections will become faster compared to 2008. The significance and attraction of the S-Bahn as an inner-city transport means is increased further with the 4. partial expansion.
