As of 30 March 2018 boat trips on Lake Zurich and the Limmat are no longer subject to a boat surcharge. You only need a valid ZVV ticket for your boat trip.
As of 1 January 2018 the Swiss VAT was reduced by 0.3%. Due to the structure of its tariff and due to practical reasons the ZVV was not able to reduce its ticket prices accordingly. As the ticket prices remain the same, the ZVV would have generated an additional CHF 2.5 million annually. The ZVV decided to pass this financial advantage on to its passengers by lifting the ZSG boat surcharge. More information can be found in the press release of the Government Council of the Canton of Zurich.
Surcharges purchased on or after 30 March 2018 will be reimbursed at no charge at all public transportation sale outlets. The same applies to previously purchased and not fully used multiple journey tickets as well as monthly and annual surcharge passes. These will be refunded pro rata.
