Self-service bicycle transport

Travelling on two wheels? All you need is an additional ticket for your bike. Please observe the advice and tips below.

You are allowed to transport a bicycle on most lines in the ZVV network provided it is not dirty and there is enough space in the carriage. Please note, however, that the ZVV is not obliged to carry bicycles.

You need to purchase an additional regular ZVV ticket (2nd class, discount prices) or an SBB day pass. The most cost effective way to travel locally with a bicycle is to buy a ZVV ticket. For longer distances, it's worth buying an SBB day pass.

Travelling with a bicycle

Taking bicycles on the S-Bahn: The double-deck carriages and Regio-Dosto trains of the SBB, the articulated railcars of Thurbo AG and SOB FLIRT trains have designated spaces for bicycles. Please look for the bicycle symbols on the doors.

Taking bicycles on the tram: If you get on the last carriage of a tram, there will usually be enough room for your bicycle.

Taking bicycles on the bus: The second door from the front of a bus is usually best: As a rule, you will find enough space to accommodate your bicycle.

For reasons of space during peak traffic hours (6–8am and 4–7pm) some companies do not carry bicycles at all or at times. The following table displays where and when you may carry bicycle in the Zurich Transport Network.

Heavily soiled bicycles may be prevented from travelling if other passengers and/or the vehicle itself could come into contact with dirt.

Persons wishing to take their bicycles outside of the network area must purchase national tickets at half-fare. Bicycles may then be transported on the route indicated on the ticket.

Two tickets are required for tandems, recumbent bicycles and tricycles.
