Fares

You will find a brief summary of the fare regulations of the Zurich Transport Network on this page. Detailed information on the ZVV regional fares and national fare bases can be found at:

The local network applies within a political municipality (excluding the cities of Zurich and Winterthur). For journeys within the local networks (excluding the Zurich and Winterthur city networks), the local fare (fare level 1) applies.

In the city networks of Zurich and Winterthur, fare level 2 applies (1-2 zones)

An overview of all stops in the ZVV can be found here:

Validity

The family discounts offered by Swiss transport companies, Junior Travelcard and Children's Co-Travelcard, apply to all ZVV tickets.

Junior Travelcard

With the Junior Travelcard, children aged 6 to 16 travel free of charge when accompanied by a parent. Parents must hold a valid ticket. The Junior Travelcard costs CHF 30 per child per year. It is free for the third child and over.

Children's Co-Travelcard

The Children's Co-Travelcard for CHF 30 allows companions aged 16 and over (grandparents, great-grandparents, godparents, neighbours, aunts/uncles, friends/acquaintances, childminders, nannies, socially committed people, etc.) to take a child aged 6 to 16 with them free of charge.

Up to 5.99 years old

Children up to 5.99 years of age travel free of charge without a ticket.

From 6 to 15.99 years old

Children from 6 to 15.99 years of age pay the reduced fare until the day before their 16th birthday.

Up to 24.99 years old

Young people up to the age of 24.99 are entitled to either the ‘Child’ NetworkPass (up to 15.99 years old) or the ‘Young Adult’ NetworkPass (16–24.99 years old). This discount is not available for transferable NetworkPasses, in which case a transferable NetworkPass for adults must be purchased.

‘Young Adult’ travelcards purchased up to the day before the 25th birthday and whose validity period begins before the 25th birthday can be used until the expiry of the travelcard.

ID card

We recommend that children and young people carry official proof of age with them in case of ticket inspections.

Tip

Buy tickets and travelcards for your children in the ZVV Ticket Shop or the ZVV app and conveniently load them onto their SwissPass. To do this, simply enter the child in question as ‘passenger’ and select ‘link to SwissPass’. The child can also travel independently with this ticket or travelcard.

Disabled Passenger’s ID Card

Disabled persons resident in Switzerland can bring a companion and/or a guide dog with them free of charge when they have the relevant ‘Disabled Passenger’s ID Card’ (Companion Travelcard). Either the passenger or the companion must be in possession of a valid ticket.

Wheelchair

Manual and electric wheelchairs can be transported free of charge if the user is travelling with them and safety is guaranteed. More information such as maximumi dimensions and weights can be found at Fare 600 of the Alliance SwissPass (German only).

Travel tips

You can find more information and useful tips on accessible travel in the ZVV here.

Small animals

Small dogs, cats and similar domesticated small animals with a wither height of up to 30 cm may travel free of charge in bags, baskets and other suitable carriers.

Large Dogs

For dogs that cannot be transported in a bag, basket or other suitable carrier, the reduced fare  for 2nd class must be paid. Those who travel frequently throughout Switzerland with their dog should consider purchasing a DogPass.

Hand luggage and buggies

Hand luggage and accompanied buggies can be carried free of charge.

Low-floor vehicles and step-free bus stops and entrances make it possible to travel safely on public transport even with a buggy. All low-floor vehicles have zones in the entry area that provide space for buggies. Older trams and buses also offer enough space for buggies. The corresponding door is marked with a buggy symbol. Press the buggy or wheelchair button if you need more time or help getting in or out.

Please note: Due to limited space, buggies must always be folded on the boats of the Limmat River Cruises. On all other ZSG cruises, buggies must not exceed a width of 80 cm.

Detailed information about the low-floor option can be found in the online timetable or in the ZVV app.
